And yet we so often forget to drink enough of it in everyday life &#8211; especially us women, who often have to function between family, work and our own needs. But what actually happens to our bodies when we don&#8217;t drink enough?  <\/p><p data-start=\"575\" data-end=\"749\">In this article, you&#8217;ll find out how a lack of fluids affects your body &#8211; and why it&#8217;s so important to be conscious of water and fluids, especially from the age of 40.<\/p><h4>The underestimated power of water<\/h4><p data-start=\"799\" data-end=\"1047\">Our body consists of around 60-70% water. Every cell, every organ and every body system depends on it. You feel tired, forgetful, \u201cfoggy\u201d. <\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"1420\" data-end=\"1555\"><p data-start=\"1422\" data-end=\"1555\"><strong data-start=\"1422\" data-end=\"1458\">Circulatory problems &amp; dizziness<\/strong><br data-start=\"1458\" data-end=\"1461\">A drop in blood pressure can occur, especially on warm days or during physical activity.<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"1557\" data-end=\"1681\"><p data-start=\"1559\" data-end=\"1681\"><strong data-start=\"1559\" data-end=\"1585\">Dry skin &amp; lips<\/strong><br data-start=\"1585\" data-end=\"1588\">The skin appears pale, tight or itchy &#8211; the first signs that the body lacks moisture.<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"1683\" data-end=\"1789\"><p data-start=\"1685\" data-end=\"1789\"><strong data-start=\"1685\" data-end=\"1707\">Digestive problems<\/strong><br data-start=\"1707\" data-end=\"1710\">Without water, the intestines cannot work well &#8211; constipation is often the result.<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"1791\" data-end=\"1916\"><p data-start=\"1793\" data-end=\"1916\"><strong data-start=\"1793\" data-end=\"1830\">Dark urine &amp; infrequent urination<\/strong><br data-start=\"1830\" data-end=\"1833\">The body tries to conserve water &#8211; the urine becomes more concentrated and darker.<\/p><\/li><\/ul><h4 data-start=\"1923\" data-end=\"1979\">What happens if we consistently drink too little?<\/h4><p data-start=\"1981\" data-end=\"2220\">Chronic dehydration &#8211; a permanent lack of fluids &#8211; affects more people than you might think. Women over 40 in particular, who feel tired, lacking in energy or hormonally out of balance, benefit enormously from drinking more. <\/p><p data-start=\"2222\" data-end=\"2259\">Long-term effects include<\/p><ul data-start=\"2261\" data-end=\"2856\"><li data-start=\"2261\" data-end=\"2399\"><p data-start=\"2263\" data-end=\"2399\"><strong data-start=\"2263\" data-end=\"2298\">Kidney damage &amp; urinary tract infections<\/strong><br data-start=\"2298\" data-end=\"2301\">The kidneys need water to excrete harmful substances. Drinking too little can overtax them. <\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"2401\" data-end=\"2562\"><p data-start=\"2403\" data-end=\"2562\"><strong data-start=\"2403\" data-end=\"2448\">Poor skin &amp; premature ageing<\/strong><br data-start=\"2448\" data-end=\"2451\">Water is our natural anti-ageing agent &#8211; without sufficient hydration, the skin loses its elasticity.<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"2564\" data-end=\"2705\"><p data-start=\"2566\" data-end=\"2705\"><strong data-start=\"2566\" data-end=\"2587\">Joint complaints<\/strong><br data-start=\"2587\" data-end=\"2590\">Joints also need fluids. Dehydration can exacerbate symptoms, especially at the start of the menopause. <\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"2707\" data-end=\"2856\"><p data-start=\"2709\" data-end=\"2856\"><strong data-start=\"2709\" data-end=\"2736\">Weaker immune system<\/strong><br data-start=\"2736\" data-end=\"2739\">Cells need water to function properly &#8211; including our immune cells. A lack of fluids weakens the immune system. <\/p><\/li><\/ul><h4 data-start=\"2863\" data-end=\"2908\">How much should you really drink?<\/h4><p data-start=\"2910\" data-end=\"3039\">There is no general recommendation &#8211; because your requirements depend on many factors: Age, activity, temperature, diet.<\/p><p data-start=\"3041\" data-end=\"3067\">As a rough guide:<\/p><p data-start=\"3069\" data-end=\"3167\"><strong data-start=\"3072\" data-end=\"3108\">1.5 to 2.5 liters of water per day<\/strong><br data-start=\"3108\" data-end=\"3111\">More if it&#8217;s hot, you&#8217;re exercising or the air is dry.<\/p><p data-start=\"3169\" data-end=\"3392\">Tip:<br data-start=\"3174\" data-end=\"3177\">Don&#8217;t wait until you&#8217;re thirsty &#8211; that&#8217;s a late warning signal. Get into the habit of having a fixed drinking routine: e.g. a glass of water straight after getting up, before every meal and small sips in between.<\/p><h4 data-start=\"3399\" data-end=\"3445\">My personal tip for women over 40<\/h4><p data-start=\"3447\" data-end=\"3664\">When you enter the menopause, many things change in the body &#8211; including the sensation of thirst. Many people drink <em data-start=\"3557\" data-end=\"3571\">even less<\/em>, even though they need <em data-start=\"3584\" data-end=\"3590\">more<\/em>. I recommend this: Drink your way back to energy, freshness and focus!  <\/p><p data-start=\"3447\" data-end=\"3664\">Some women drink more when the water tastes good. Citrus oils of tested quality (e.g. CPTG\u00ae) can naturally flavour your water.<br data-start=\"640\" data-end=\"643\">Particularly popular: lemon, grapefruit or wild orange &#8211; they provide a fresh taste experience and can make daily drinking easier.<br data-start=\"796\" data-end=\"799\">Important: Only use oils that are approved for internal use. <\/p><h4 data-start=\"3878\" data-end=\"3918\">Conclusion: drinking is self-care<\/h4><p data-start=\"3920\" data-end=\"4101\">Drinking too little is no small matter &#8211; it is a silent burden on your body, skin, hormones and energy.
